Thursday evening I decided to get the full effect of the 45 mile and hour wind gusts by going to a stand that was on the east end of a big field.  It was a real shaker in the stand and I had to hold on to the sides a few time to stop my self from being ejected out of the stand.  It still was a great view.   I put out a buck decoy so I would have something to watch.

Shortly after sunset, a buck entered the field about 300 yards to the west. (near the area where the field narrows).  He headed my way for about 100 yards and then turned and went to the wood line to my right.  The buck pawed around and licked a few branches as the slowly made his way along the wood line.  When he was about 150 yards away, I gave him several grunts.  He looked my way and I could tell he saw the decoy.  I thought he might follow the wood line around and past me to face the decoy but he just came trotting across the field.  He stayed about 10 yards behind the decoy (decoy at 20 yards) postering and trying to figure out what's up.  During this time I saw it was a nice, (not a P&Y) buck.  Antlers beyound the ears and fairly tall.  The tines weren't very long but I did see 4 not counting the brow tines on a side so it was a faily nice 10 point.  I decided I wanted to shot him if he gave me a good shot.  Well being he was out in the middle of a field and his attention was on the decoy, I soon had my chance.  Without making a whole lot of excuses, (wind, using wrong pin, excitment the list can go on), I simply plunked an arrow in the ground between his legs.  So, I didn't get the deer but it still was the best show I've every had.  To see that buck prance around in the open field, lick branches, make a bee line to my decoy, study the decoy, and yes, hop away after my errant shot was simply the priceless.

Nice story. A guy in Benson shot a 10 pointer on that windy day. I always thought they didn't move when it was windy. I was wrong.
