I've taken the week after Christmas off and plan on hopefully filling my bow tag.  I've never hunted a lot this late in the year and was wondering if anyone has any advice on what I should be looking for or what should I do different than what I do when compared to earlier season hunting.
Thanks,

Blazer

Blazer, that depends on where you are hunting in general.

basicly what the deer need is food.
especialy the bucks after rutting.
if you know where there safe spot for bedding is, then figureout what there doing to regain calories they lost during the rut

do you live in farm country?
un picked corn would be a good bet, even corn in no till might offer up enough left overs to sustain their needs.

in the big woods, I would focus on the red willows and dog woods and the cedar swamps.
those areas offer up both food and cover. making them ideal places for a buck to just hang out.
go tear down a few cedar branches and it wont be long before they start hitting them, if they are in the area.

with the lack of snow especially in the southern part of the state, they can browse on just about anything now.
there are grasses available all over.

you just need to do a little bit of searching.
if you enter the woods and bump some deer out, you are close to where they want to be because they typicaly do not wander far to conserve energy this time of year.

there, got you confused enough yet?

good luck. let me know if you need any help out there, I still have a tag or two left ;)
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

What I have been noticing lately, Like last night and tonight when I was out predator hunting is that they are using the main trails they were using back in august and september again.

For most people its either go ice fishing or watch bowl games this time of year. You be surprised what you may find.

My buck tag is done for and I shot 9 deer this year so I am fishing and trying to clear out a couple dogs too. But I like the last week, you can also hunt a lot more public area as well. Like Car Load Avery, not very many people in there right now.

I got out ice fishing hard the first two weeks of December and spent the past two weeks in the woods bow hunting. This past week, I finally started seeing the deer. I saw 8 on Dec 27th, 7 on stand on Dec 28th, 2 on stand on Dec 29th and took a buck on Dec 30th. It was only a 5 pt, but came limping under the tree stand and I didn't know how bad it was wounded so I put an arrow in the boiler room and got r dun. Had a gaping slash behind its right shoulder....not sure if someone hit it earlier with the bow or what....didn't look like a rifle wound.

Welcome to MNO Gus!  I'm glad you could join us here.  Could the wound been from another buck sparing?

Thanks for the warm welcome Outdoor Junkie.

I suppose the wound could be from sparing with another buck. The wound was probably 6 inches long and 3 inches high so it didn't look like a broadhead type of wound.

I live in the Scandia MN area. Whereabouts are you from?
