Heading north with kid #1 in search of deer.  Going to a new spot.  We were invited last winter at a MDHA banquit.  Great guy with a true deer mecca were qdma is practiced.  My daughter has the green light on any deer she wants but she says she is going to wait for a wall hanger.  After watching her at Camp Riply I will be surprised if she doesn't shoot the first deer that stops broadside.  She didn't sleep much last night because of the antisapation of the new adventure.
I'll post sunday night with an update and pics.

Let me just say we had a great time and THANK YOU DEADEYE!!!

We arrived at noon and met DE's son and nephew.  We were givven a tour of 1/3 of his vast playground.  Around 3:00 we start to get ready and head to a penthouse of a stand WAY up in a huge oak tree.  At about 6:15 we catch a glimps of a deer as it is working its way towards us.  It finally presents Sierra with a perfect broadside shot and she draws back.  Just as she is about to shoot the deer turns.  She lets down and waits for what seemed like 10 min. until it presents another broadside shot.  Sierra takes the shot and we watch the arrow go an inch under the deer.  The deer jumps and runs only about 10 yards and stops to look at what the noise was all about.  He slowly walks up to the glowing lighted nock.  We finally get another arrow ready.  Sierra takes another shot but this time the deer wasn't as relaxed and the shot hits a little far back.  After calming our nerves we climb down and check for blood.  We didn't find any where the deer was standing so we head back to camp and wait for everyone else.  After about 2 hours we head back out with flashlights.  We found a very weak blood trail and followed it.  After loosing the blood trail we marked the last blood and spread out started walking in the likely direction of travel.  After about 50 yards Deadeye spots the glowing lighted nock.  As we inspect the bloody arrow we hear the deer get up and crash through the brush.  We decide to back out and wait for morning.  Deadeye was great because he reashured my daughter that we would find her deer in the morning. This morning we get up and go the the spot where we found the arrow and start looking in the direction that we heard the deer crashing away .  It must have layed down right were we last heard it because it was right there.   It turns out that the arrow hit the liver and stomach and hit one of the last ribs.

Here is a picture of our view.
The deer was 23 yard away in the center of the opening.

Thank you Larry, I had a great time and look forward to seeing you again at the MDHA banquet.  This year I'm going to win a gun.

I love your land and it is way different than the spots I have already hunted.

It may have been a nubbin buck but it was my first buck and I have to start somewhere.
Make your first shot count, it might be the only one you get.

It was a pleasure having you two at my deer camp.  We did manage to pack a lot of deer hunting experience into the 24 hours you were there.   First we had the general stuff around camp, meeting fellow hunters etc.  After a wheeler tour to check out possible hunting spots for the evening hunt, we lounged around camp for a while discussing the best tactics/locations to hunt.  That evening Sierra and her dad experienced the highs and excitement of watching a deer approach, getting the shot, waiting several hours to start tracking (in the pitch black woods).  The lows, losing the blood trail, and deciding to wait until morning to continue tracking.  Another couple hours by the camp fire recounting the evenings events and and planning the morning approach to finding the deer.  Then (at least for me) a somewhat fitfull sleep in the camper as I mulled over all the information we had regarding the hit, blood trail, arrow recovery, hearing the deer get up and go a short distance and thinking about the best way to recover the deer.   We must have done things right because we found the deer within minutes of our morning search.  After the pictures, dragging, gutting, and general recounting of the events, we went on a 1 hour scouting trip during which time we found numerous fresh scrapes.   We finished the morning off with breakfast and good byes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the time "dakids" and "#1 kid" spent at my camp.  Although Sierra didn't have a lot of her own stories, she certianly could remember quite a few her dad had passed along over the years.  I was impressed with her hunting knowledge and maturity.   I'm pretty sure she started a collection of he "own" bs stories although, I'm not too sure she plans on telling the one about getting "locked in the outhouse" too often.  :rotflmao:

Here is a shot of the "hunter" and proud papa.

My property is located in south eastern Morrison County.  I looked up the area around where you gun hunt (Talmoon).  I must say I never looked at that part of the state before.  The must have have been on a real bender when they named the area lakes.  Here are a few examples.
"Big Too Much Lake"   - Can't even come up with a reason here.
"Grass Lake"   -  Probably named in the 70's.
"Big Dick Lake"   - Won't even go there.
"Johnson Lake"  -  Again, won't go there.
"Jack The Horse Lake"   I think I'm getting the theme here.
"Big Ole Lake"   -  Ahhh, that helps explain some of the names.
