I was out this morning and saw two different bucks with two different does. They weren't chasing or anything just seemed to be traveling with them. I'm sure the second rut has past by now so I was wondering if this is normal? Guess I have always seen bucks by themselves or in bachelor groups  :scratch:I did try to grunt at one to see if he would respond but got nothing from him but the doe ran right at me for 10-15 yds then stopped to look around then in a flash of white they were gone!

they are checking the does to see if the unbreed ones come into estrus again. right about now they will be feeding with the does, trying to gain back the wieght they lost while chasing. i havent seen a buck in about 2 weeks. even the smaller ones seemed to have vanished. the doe i shot today was in a group, but no bucks.

I grunted/bleated in a nice mature buck last weekend. Long story short, ended up blowing the chance. I was very ticked at myself, but lesson learned!
Like Cody said, those younger does, and unbred does will cycle back through; so bucks will still be willing, just not overally eager.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

What you'll see a lot this time of year is the bucks after doe fawns.   Just about all the does
1 1/2 and older will cycle and get bred.   A lot of the times, first year doe fawns don't cycle the first time.   Here's a good rule of thumb, count 26 days after the peak and that's when this "secondary" rut takes place.   Usually around the 10th of December in MN.   The first year doe crop will cycle the second time and it puts the buck back into a panic for a short period.   Can be a deadly time of year.   I've seen my biggest buck with my bow in hand during this time period.   He was all over a little doe.

Next season watch the tarsals on does.   You'll notice during the peak the first year does glands will be butt white do to them not cycling.   A little fun observation to pass time.

They are starting to pile up and got back on feed now.   All deer together feeding like mad, GET OUT THERE AND FILL TAGS!!!!   Have fun everyone!!!
Shoot straight and give'em the shaft!
