What are some of the odd things that you have seen while spearing?

I just had one happen today. I was changing a decoy and I felt something fall on my boot. Looking down to see what it was, the flashlight must have spooked it (it was in my mouth to help me see in the dark house). It jumped in the hole and swam away giving me a bath and a heart attack in the process.

Sorry guys I's a bit tired last night coulda made it more clear.. A muskrat came up my hole and crawled onto my boot. The flashlight in my mouth spooked it when I looked down to see what I dropped. If you can't figure it out yet stick I didn't drop a thing it was a muskrat.

So now you know the rest of the story.

Remembered of another one. My buddy and I were going to do some spearing. His house had been out there for a couple days of nice weather. I dropped him off by his house and went to set up mine. All of a sudden I hear &**%##)%^ and am wondering what is going on. He comes over and asks for the shovel. Curiously I ask what for and he told me a whole swarm of muskrats invaded his house. I went over to look and boy did they ever. They built an entire musrat hut in his spear house about 4' in diameter and nearly 3' high.

It wasn't easy but we managed to get it all shoveled out. Next time that happens I'm going to town and buy a pitch fork. Them huts don't shovel apart too easy.

;D   something similer happened to a friend ! we were spearing on the gull river above the sylvan dam,. the morning that we put the houses out we didnt think to much of it at the time . while we were cuting the hole for berts house a rat came up the hole while cleaning out the slush. anyways we did,nt fish for two days, and after going back my bud birt sat in his house for a while ! and then like you said all you could hear was (#$^JK) rats!!! what happened was over the two days the rats chewed at the ice and made a resting nest under his house and it sank on 3 three corners to the door side and he could,nt get out . now birt was a bigger guy (300) lbs and it went down hard . the only way i could get him out was to kick the wall in from the out side. now you talk about a snow white old man spitting fire that was he . and that is the oddest thing i have seen while spearing !!! allmost :) ;D

Speaking of a speared foot. On little split hand a few yrs back a buddy took a throw and it went right into his foot. He lucked out, the tine went right between his toes. Ruined his new waterproof boot though. I think this might have been related to toasting the crappie gods a bit too much.
