While we were up at the land we heard the grouse drumming and Kid#1 wanted to try and find them.  It took about 30 min of slowly moving closer to the noise.  We finally spotted the grouse and he was watching us sneaking up on him.  We set up a trail cam and will hopefully have a few good pics to add to the favorites.  20 min. after we left the grouse had already started drumming again.

We will add pics in a few weeks.  She took the lead on the stalk and did a pretty good job.

Nice looking drumming log.  I remember you spotting one on my land a couple years ago.  I never thought of setting up a camera for a grouse.  Good idea.

It was Sierra's idea.  Hopefully the grouse faces the cam while drumming.  I have the cam set on enhanced so the quality should be pretty good at the cost of number of pics.  The sd card holds about 1300 pics at this setting.  It will probably be full in a couple of days with the grouse staying on the logg for hours at a time.  There were not any good trees where we could hang the cam from so we just set it right were it is in the picture.  It is about 4 feet from all of the fresh grouse poop.

Well, we didn't get any pics of the grouse drumming because the very first time he hopped on the log he hopped onto the cam first and tipped it over.  I set the cam back up yesterday and did get a few nice pics but none of him drumming.  Hopefully he will start to drum again.  Here are the ones we got yesterday.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

Here are a few more.  I moved the cam a little for these pics.  The next time I post pics they will have a differant angle. I also mounted the cam on a post to get pics of the grouse drumming while he is facing the cam and facing more to the north to get less of a washed out pic.

Cool pictures.  I don't think there are many grouse left here in southern Indiana.

The picture of the grouse strutting/drumming is really cool.  Thanks for sharing.
