The week ended with great success!  The 3rd annual Chili Bowl fishing contest was another hit.  60 teams had a perfect day of weather to fish the Rainy River and get their 6 fish between 14 and 19.5 inches.  That’s right, no big fish allowed!

The winning team of Aaron Gubbels and Sarah Baade caught their 6 fish totaling 12.33 pounds to claim the 1000.00 cash prize of 1st place.  Border View Lodge had a good showing in the contest with Ronnie Finders (the cook) and her team mate husband, Tom, topping the list of Border View employees at 5th place, with 6 fish weighing 9.95 pounds!  Way to go Ronnie!

Other notable Border View Lodge teams; It was a BIG grudge match and was trash talked for weeks leading up to the contest, Mike Trueman and team mate Jim Thompson made sure they stayed in the upper bracket by bringing in 6 fish for a 16th place finish, well over spouses Connie Trueman and team mate Gretchen Thompson’s efforts of 1 fish.  Better luck next year ladies!  Also, the highest scoring all girl team, taking 15th place, is waitress Sissy and Jill Vollmer bringing in 5 fish that outweighed many 6 fish teams, while using Captain Lanny’s duck boat with no electronics!  Woooh-Hooo!  And…of course, we had a goose egg, Captain Tom and his wife Tammy opted to not weigh the couple fish they had for a zero on the day.  I can almost hear the excuse starting…I am better at catching fish for our guests!

The week ahead shows a great fall forecast with highs into the 60’s and lows into 40’s with light wind the next few days!

The upcoming weekend is full but there are still dates available to take advantage of the Rainy River fall fishing this month.

Winter dates are booking in fast, if you have not picked your dates yet you may need to soon!

FISH ON!
