Hunting last weekend (part 1)

Last weekend my son brought a friend out bow hunting.  I ask him what he intended to shoot.  He said his wife wasn't too keen on spending $$ on processing so he planned to only shoot one that will go on the wall.  I don't really know how big the one was that he hosed up on (twice) but it must have been pretty nice.  The first time the buck was coming toward him and while moving to get ready, his quiver hit the ladder stand and made a noise. The buck ran about 50 yards and stopped to assess the situation.  After 15-20 minutes he returned and this time was broad side at 20 yards when he attempted to draw. This time he lost his balance and fell against the tree causing a ruckus and the buck ran off.   The next morning he saw 8 deer but none had antlers. I guess that is why some bucks get big.

Sounds like he might have a case of bad luck. Or he just needs to be a little more careful.

thats terrible luck. i keep take my quiver off my bow, just so that cant happen. im glad he didnt fall out of the tree and get hurt. better luck next time

He was in a ladder stand with arms and rails.  You would have to work at it to fall out.  I do have a couple of the ladder stands that just have a place for your feet and a seat.  We were just talking about them last weekend.  No one has gone in them for the past 4 years.  No one feels safe in them.  I'm thinking of putting them in a basswood clump and putting rails around them that way.
