I am pretty new into ice fishing, so far I have an older jiffy auger, an under water camera, and a cheap portable shack. I am looking to replace the shack soon but before I do that, I want to buy a flasher. I know that Vexilar is a very popular brand and all of my friends recommend it, the problem is they are all so expensive. I have been shopping around and I am struggling to find anything around the $200 or less mark. Would it be a mistake to spend the money on something $200 or less? or should I keep looking for a Vexilar?

You should be able to pick up a used Vex Fl-8 for around 200.   A lot of ice fishermen will be upgrading their electronics now.  Watch Craigs list over the next couple of weeks and you might find what you are looking for.  Make sure it comes with a battery charger.  The newer ones are really nice but the Fl-8 gets the job done and is all I use.

I agree, I bought a used Vexilar fl8 for 10 years and the. Last year upgraded to an FL20 ultra pack. Vexilar stands the test of time and never has let me down.

I have a Vex and a Bird both work to catch more fish but I do prefer the Vex. Just seen a bunch on CL for 200 and 1 for 180
