That's an apple to oranges comparison. 
North Dakota didn't have the ability to handle a large influx of people in a short period of time.
This area (Ely, Aurora, Hoyt Lakes, Babbitt, Tower, Soudan, Winton)  already has school buildings, many of which are vacant because there are no jobs for young people.
There are many houses and businesses for sale, medical facilities, a large airport able to land a large jet, etc.
Also keep in mind that this will be an underground mine, & THE MINE IS NOT IN THE BWCAW!
These jobs, other than construction, are several years away and the environmentalists will fight it all the way.  Look at how crazy they went when AT&T wanted to put up a cell phone tower 2 miles out of the Bdub.  A judge with some sanity reversed that decision and the new tower is going to be built.

Thats good news GO, only copper mines I've seen were in New Mexico...down by Silver City, a good friends Dad worked in one...biggest eyesore I've ever seen...course that was in the Old days.
