We went to lake auburn just north of Victoria for the second day.  The kids had a great couple of days fishing.  All total they caught more than 30 hammer handles.  The flags were popping left and right between 8 and 10 both days and then slowed down.  We were using small suckers on tip ups in 9 to 15 feet of water.  We parked at the public access and fished right in front of the landing.  We talked to a couple of guys that were spearing out there and all they were seeing were the little ones.  DNR website says there are lots of pike and some very nice ones.  Our bigest maybe was 2 pounds with lots of ice stuck to it.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.
