Santa didn't bring me any of those new fake  weeds (not the kind you are thinking of jigglestick) for Christmas.  I called Gander and Cabelas with no luck and then one of the salemen I talked to on the phone at Cabelas told me they are illegal in Minnesota but not some other states.  They were advertised in Minnesota or Midwest Outdoors so I assumed they must be legal here but according to the guy I talked to they are not.  He said that it is the same as putting a Christmas tree down the hole.  I know URL and other lakes have cribs.  Is it because they are approved by the DNR??  The plastic weeds come with a float and weight to get them to the bottom so they aren't permanent unless someone in crazy moment gets too close to the float line and burns it on a lantern.  What makes them illegal??  Are they classified as an unnatural attractant??

They are legal as long as you take them out of the lake when you leave.  They can stay in (NEAR BY) if you are sleeping in a sleeper house or perm.

Once I get a few minutes I will be building my own with the left over X-mas Decorations.

Scott,  You are right.  Neither Gander or Cabelas has them but I called Joes Sporting Goods in St. Paul and they have them for $34.95 (two 4 foot sections).  I will be up on URL January 12-14 and will give them a try.  I will give a report when I get back.

I've had them down about six times this year on url.  Here is my expierence so far.  Go deep, at least 13 fow.  8-10  fow they have seemed to scare the fish away.  The walleye only bit after I pulled the weeds.  In 14 fow, I had one of my best days catching.  Set them 8-10 feet away from where you are fishing.  Let em soak for a while to get results.  Put them down before you drop your first line.

Timberline sells a set of two for $29.99.   My other expierence is that the company dosen't respond to e-mails.
