The Legislature's budget committee has voted to eliminate 32.1 positions in the state Department of Natural Resources.

MADISON, Wis. — The Legislature's budget committee has voted to eliminate 32.1 positions in the state Department of Natural Resources.

Sen. Glenn Grothman, R-West Bend, proposed the cuts during a meeting today to begin voting on revisions to Gov. Scott Walker's executive budget. Grothman said the jobs have been open for at least a year. His formal motion didn't explicitly say the positions to be cut would be vacant ones, though.

Committee Democrats argued Grothman's proposal included no information about the positions. Republicans countered the DNR must be getting along without the positions since they've been open for months. The committee ultimately approved the proposal on a 12-4 party line vote.
