Sturgeon fishing is on fire.  Now through May 7th continues the "keep one" season for sturgeon. A $5 sturgeon tag is required and must be purchased before you fish if you intend on keeping a sturgeon.  The limit is one fish per calendar year and the slot is 45-50" or over 70".  Good numbers being caught with many fish over 60 inches, weighing over 80 lbs reported. Sturgeon are biting in deep pockets. The "go to" bait, night crawlers on a circle hook fished on the bottom.

The Wheeler's Point ramp is now open.  The Rainy River is open into 4 Mile Bay to the Lighthouse Gap.  Expectations on the Rainy River are positive for the May 11th walleye opener.  Lots of walleyes in the river with cold water temps.

Pike season is heating up. Limit is 3 and all 30-40" must be thrown back, only one over 40" kept. Bays are slowly opening. Pike season does not close on Lake of the Woods!  More info at www.lakeofthewoodsMN.com and on Facebook at LakeofthewoodsMN.
