Good Tip-ups

Looking at getting some good tip-ups this year since we can fish with 4 lines up here in Nodak. Wondering which kinds anyone has had good luck with and which kinds to avoid. I know some are designed to cover the hole so it doesn't freeze over. Do they work? Worth the extra money?

The only tip ups that I still have are the round thermal ones.  I got tired of having to clean out the blowing snow and chopping the ice.  I have 2 of them with 4 pound mono for perch and crappies and they work great.  I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE ROUND ONES THAT FIT IN A 5 GALLON BUCKET.

HT makes really goo tip ups, from the standard ones yu lie across the hole for 12 bucks to the round one dakids mentioned and i think they got thermal ones to.

Beaver Dam. I require a hearty tip up for my careless style of fishing. You could beat a grizzly bear to death with a beaver dam and catch the next world record pike 20 minutes later on the same tip up. Due to there open design it wouldn't hurt to build one of them foam hole covers for it though.

if I got new tip ups I would definetly spend the extra money for beaver dams they have circle ones that cover the holes but they aren't insulated

Sounds like the Beaver Dams and HTs are both pretty nice. Thanks for the info.

Being I do a lot of fishing on devils lake n dak  I would highly recommend  something insulated out there , I use thermal but im sure there are other brands out there.
