As we get further into the season, fish are spreading out into deeper water. The morning/evening bite in 15-22' has been good in some areas. The day bite has been better a little deeper for eater sized fish, 29-33 feet of water. Use your favorite jigging spoon or a drop shot in gold, glow, pink, or orange tipped with a minnow head.  In the dead stick hole, light jig or red plain hook with a live minnow 6" off bottom.  Lots of suspended trophy fish reported, electronics useful.  Currently 21-25" of ice on the lake.

On the Rainy River, fish are moving. Limits filled during the day with active morning and evening bites for larger fish. 19-21 feet of water is producing best bite with chartreuse and pink jigs tipped with shiners.  Work through resorts or bait shops for ice conditions as river ice varies.

Up at the NW Angle, big fish are on! Trophy walleyes reported in the mix of limits caught in 23-28 feet of water. Monster perch in the mix on MN side with crappies going well into Ontario. Use bright colors and some that glow tipped with a minnow. For info on lodging, fish house rentals and area activities, www.LakeoftheWoodsMN.com.
