 Snow makes a return to the area

BEMIDJI - Admit it. You thought it was over.


The winter that wouldn't end was done. It had to be, right? The snow was melted; golf courses were opening.

 
Think again. In what seems to be the never-ending winter season, Bemidjians again Thursday had to contend with winter-like weather as rain turned to snow in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks said we can also expect snow today as well, mostly falling before 9 a.m. The weather service said about an inch of snow was expected to fall Thursday into this morning. Today's high will be in the 48-degree range, the weather service said, so whatever snow does fall should dissipate early.

The precipitation comes only days after both local and state officials were warning about high fire danger ratings in much of north-central and northwest Minnesota. On Tuesday, a large swath of central and northwest Minnesota was listed in the high fire danger category. However, on Thursday, all of Minnesota except for the southwest corner was listed as in the low fire danger category as rain and snow blanketed much of the state.

According to the weather service, Saturday should be mostly sunny with a high near 50, but expect more rain and possibly snow Saturday night into Sunday. More "normal" conditions are expected next week, with highs in the 50s by Tuesday.
