Ely area fishing 8/17/2014

The fishing in the Ely area has been luke warm for the most part.  The cooler, then warmer weather, has caused the fish to travel in different areas than they would normally be in.
Basswood Lake has been fairly consistant the last few weeks with catches of walleye and large bass on the reefs.
Snowbank Lake has been producing a few walleyes in the 35-40 FOW range, and larger bass are beginning to come on the reefs.  Lake Trout are being taken in the 75 FOW are by jigging Swedish Pimples.  The same is true for Burntside but successful Trout anglers are using larger bucktail jigs.
Burntside walleye, pike, and larger bass action has been sporadic, as there is not much on the reefs.  Best chances are to troll shorelines and find humps near them.
Shagawa Lake near Ely is slowly starting to give up a few walleyes and bass, but the action is no where what it should be.
None of the lakes has a dectable thermocline, which could be the reason for the slow bite.
The water temps are just about the same from the surface to forty feet, or more.
