        Minnesota asks public for walleye fishing rules feedback for 3 northern lakes, 1 river

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. — Minnesota officials are asking for residents' input on proposed walleye fishing rules for northern Cook County.

WDIO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/YsRkpk ) the state Department of Natural Resources is looking for feedback on the regulations for Saganaga, Sea Gull and Gull lakes, as well as the Sea Gull River.

The proposal calls for a 17-inch minimum size requirement and a limit of three fish. Only one walleye over 20 inches would be allowed.

A DNR assessment showed the number of walleye is declining in the area. Anglers have also expressed concerns about the lack of smaller walleye.

The department will hold two public meetings to collect input on Sept. 24 in St. Paul and Sept. 27 in Grand Marais. It says it will take comments on the proposal until Oct. 7.
