For the second year in a row I found a dead buck on my property. These bucks had been shot but not found by neighbors.  It took 11 months to find out who shot the one I found last year and I will now start looking and listening for clues about the one I found this year.

Last Saturday I found this this nice 9 point buck.  It had been dead for several days so I assume it was a bow kill.  Ravens, crows and eagles had eaten the back legs.  There was a hole high on the shoulder that could have been made by an arrow (it did not go through) but the birds had pecked at it so there wasn't evidence of a broadhead injury.  I found this buck about 150 yards from a neighbors land.  The owner doesn't hunt but earlier this year he told me his grandson was bow hunting there.

I found this buck on my property shortly after the 2013 gun season.  After checking the bullet wound, I estimated that it could not have gone over 200-250 yards and should have left a blood trail.  This fall (late August) I met a guy who had been hunting on the neighbors property last year.  He said he wounded a buck last year that went on my property.  I had him describe how the deer approached, how and when he shot and what the deer looked like.  It matched the bullet wound and deer so I'm almost certain it was this deer.  My thought was this deer should have been found.

man them are a couple nice deer that got wasted. I feel your pain deadeye. I preach to our hunting party if you don't have a good shot don't take it and always do an intensive search after ya shoot. not a big fan of shooting at a deer that's runnin a 100 mph either.

i preach this very thing at camp. even if you think you missed get down and look! and even follow the deers trail for 50 yards just to make sure. trail it to the best of your ability and recruit help. it crossed fences, talk to the neighbors most landowners would be happy to let you get your deer, some may even help and give you insight on where they think the deer could be headed if the blood is sparse.
