Oldsmobile submerged through ice in Morrison County

Feb 2, 2015

The Morrison County Sheriff's Office responded to a report at 2:42 p.m. Friday of a 1997 Oldsmobile car partially submerged through the water on Lake Alexander in Scandia Valley Township.

The driver, a 55-year-old Browerville man, told deputies he was driving his vehicle across Thoroughfare Bay on Lake Alexander when the car broke through the ice. The man safely made it out of the car and was not injured.

The Scandia Valley First Response Team, Scandia Valley Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.

Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen reminds residents it is extremely dangerous to drive or walk on channels and pressure ridges. The ice always has variable conditions and it is never completely safe. Caution is always recommended before venturing out on the ice. Larsen urges people to be familiar with the ice conditions on the lake they choose to occupy and be mindful ice conditions are subject to change.
