Fishin' and Skinnin' with dakids and Big Jerry

Met dakids (the Beaver Whisperer) and his Dad, Big Jerry last Sunday out on the lake. Those boys had already bagged 1 nice pike and dakids was busy skinning a beaver on the hood of his car. I think we picked up 3 more pike and a nice bass before I left, but not before Big Jerry did his now famous fish calling dance. The man is light on his feet. Another fine outing with the Beaver Whisperer...

It was a good day to be out and about.  I also introduced the ice fishing trolling run.  It worked as usual. 

Boar,  That beaver actually didn't bleed to much.  If you skin it right after getting it there is blood everywhere.

Over the years I have gotten better at taking care of beaver.  In my youth I was usually in a hurry and would just get in there and tear it up.  But with age comes wisdom.  Now I take my time and make sure that my knife is at the right angle so as not to cause undue trauma to the delicate pelt.  It is usually better to pay attention to the small details.

Do you sell the pelts or make hates or beaver pelt choppers? looks like a great day with a couple dandy pike to boot.

If you keep the tails... skin em and tan them... they make the best wallets Ive ever seen!

Skinned tails and will be having a guy make a few wallets made.  Only getting 14 to 17 bucks per pelt now so at the end of to season I will be sending them in to be tamed and then making choppers and hats out of them.  Removing skulls and will be getting Beatles to clean them up.  Boiling sucks.  Saving the back legs to smoke and eat.  Rest is frozen and will be used for bear bait.  I try to use every.  After skinning  the tails I don't  know how anybody eats the tails.  They look like 100% fat.  I've been using the fat chunks as dog treats.  The puppies sit real nice while I'm skinning.

I'll save a few back legs and smoke them and bring them to the annual fishapaluza up on leech
