          Crawler picking time is near.

 :happy1: .....
Are you ready for some football :bonk: crawler picking? It's time to start getting ready. As for me ("I'm stoked"). Every year the price of crawlers goes up and this is the time of year to prepare for the season.

Today I cleaned up the crawler fridge in the garage and it was a mess. I mixed up enough bedding for two flats of crawlers for starters. I usually store up three to four flats of crawlers with about 150 per flat. Evening rain along with lightning and thunder is what I pray for along with light winds.

Easy Pickens

I get all my crawlers the morning after the storms. Best place for me is the local forest preserves. I never have to look in the grass/dirt. Just go to the parking lots and scoop um up by the 100's

Make sure to feed them and they will do well. I soak my bedding and then squeeze it out by hand. To wet and they will die/to dry and they won't fatten up.

What do you do for your crawler supply?

crawlers before feeding and after feeding

                                            :oops1:

Glenn,

Magic worm food is what I use. I asked the company that sells it what this stuff is and he said chicken mash. It's in a shaker and is in a powder form. Also they actually the worm bedding.
There are all kinds of stuff that you can use but some stuff can contaminate the bedding as it rots.

After off and on thunder storms last night I decided gather up my night crawler hunting equipment. I hit the forest preserve about 7:30 am. My favorite hunting location was roped off so you couldn't drive in there. That's what happens when you live in Crook County IL. They must of cut down on staff. I then drove over to another section and that was open.

The first few spring storms bring out the crawlers big time and they were all over the pavements. Plenty of them just get washed down the sewers during big rains. They were decent size crawlers but not as big as the ones I'll see in about 2 more weeks.

I gathered up 200 crawlers and the sky started to darken. I decided to scram as another storm was brewing.

I use my invention to gather the crawlers and never even have to touch one worm or bend over. I call it "Lee's crawler picker upper" I posted photos of it on the site about 2 years ago. My bedding is all ready because I mixed it the other day. For our good friends at PETA: All crawlers in this story were unharmed and happy to be saved from the cold wet pavement. For Now! :doah:
