terrible riding boat

I have a 16' Lund  with a 25 Yamaha 4 stroke on it.  I've had it for 5-6 years and almost always use it on a little lake with other people.  This weekend I went solo and it's basically undrivable because there is no weight in the front and 175 pounds of me, the motor and battery in back. 

Frankly, I know the sandbag trick which I used to due, it's awesome when one of the bags rips and sand flies in your face!  I've changed the motor settings and it does nothing.  How was this boat designed to be such a POS? 

After starting out with the bow nearly straight in the air to drive it in any wind alone is borderline insanity and I've driven boats my whole life.  What am I missing besides having a 200 pound boat mate up front (not my wife  )

I had the same problem..you could put a dol-fin on the motor....

I had the same type of problem when I upgraded from 3 hp to 7.5 hp on a 12 foot Lund. I ended up using jumper cables to move the trolling battery to the front.
I took it out this weekend without the battery and it put the nose right in the air.
I may end up selling it and using my neighbor's 17 foot Lund while he is roofing all week long.

I had that problem with a lighter boat too.  I got a real long gas line and put the gas tank in front with the anchor.  Helped some.  Or tell the wife I sure like fishing with her.....

Do you have the tilt pin in the lowest hole?The hole nearest the transom.

  You are rear heavy like whats been mentioned fuel tank,batteries to the front anything you can. trim tabs are costly but to make some home made aint that hard.Still weight distribution is your problem.My 16ft crestliner was the same I moved everything forward even carried 2 anchors I seldom used, I carried them as weight offset.

yep, I've moved the removable pin for setting the motor so many times I'm a pro at it.  I know it's the weight issue and may move the battery and tank but it sucks for anyone who has to sit up front if we fish three.  It's small enough up there anyhow and with the tank and battery they will need small feet.  Maybe the plate is in order too.

What model and year Lund do you have? If you have a live well near the front of the boat fill it. Even if it's mid- ship it still might help.  An extended tiller might help shift your weight away from the transom and add to your forward weigh depending on your seating status.

its just the fishing boat kind.  SSV16 or WC 16.  I think it's the WC kind. 

I did talk about selling it Boar so I will let you know.  I'd like a 14 with a 9.9 or 15 like we used to have.

I just moved my gas tank to the middle of the boat.  And had the anchor in the front smaller area.  Helped some.

I have the same issues with a 14 ft. Lund set up for tiller steer with an 18 h.p. Evinrude.  So you guys are saying use the hole closest to the transom?

I had the same problem with my 14 ft. S 14 with a 20 hp Honda and 240 butt in the back. Back trolling was not feasible with a short transom without guards. Also found trolling with any kind of wind was next to impossible, so I put a bow mount on it and moved the battery to midship, wired appropriate power and problem solved. Bow never raises more than a few inches before I'm on plane.

How about some concrete blocks instead of sandbags?   Pavers or the ones for retaining walls would be ok, won't spill, won't rot, fairly easy to handle, and you can stand on them.

Mount a whale tail on the cavitation plate, it'll bring the front end down quickly.
