if i have two deep cell batteries hooked together in parallel, can I charge them both at the same time by just putting the cables on the one of them?  or should they be done separate?

Big Fish;
It can be done but is not recommended, the charger gets too hot and it might ruin it.

ok, so my question in the picture here... I attach the positive cable from the charger to the positive terminal on one battery and the neg to the terminal of the opposite battery...  right?

That is what I see in the picture and that would keep everything in parrallel. I have never had to try this so I don't have any experience with it.  How are most boats set up in parallel or series? I know most boats with dual battery systems you just plug in to charge them and don't have to disconnect anything.

well parrallel is still 12 volts, series is 24 volts.  so it depends on how the boat is setup.

In my boat and in my fish house there is a dual bank charger so it charges both battery's at the same time. Before I got those I put the positive on one and the neg on the other. Didn't seem to hurt them. I would suggest just buying a duel bank.
