     Huston's fishing report :fishing:
                                                                    :Fish: :Fish: :Fish:

This weekend the world-famous Bois Brule River is seeing plenty of anglers trying their luck at migrating steelhead. There are open water opportunities as well on Lake Superior, either by shore or by boat. And we still have ice on inland lakes holding steady.

On Lake Superior, anglers are taking to the open waters of the North Shore, trolling for salmon and the occasional lake trout. Most fish are being taken on shallow-running baits like Shad Raps at trolling depths of 20 to 80 feet. A few of the lakers are being caught near the surface and some are being caught with lead-core line. Anglers are also still catching an occasional fish from shore by casting.

On the St. Louis River, anglers in Wisconsin bays are targeting a mix of crappies, perch and some nice-size sunfish. Oddly enough, the best tactic has been waxworms on a dead stick (static line under a float). Minnows have not shown much success.

Be sure to check ice conditions with local bait shops and check regulations, as some seasons are now closed.

Jarrid Houston of South Range is a fishing guide (houstonsguideservice.com) on Minnesota and Wisconsin inland waters, the St. Louis River and, in winter, on Lake Superior.
