Report: Peterson nearing deal with Saints!

 Adrian Peterson could soon be taking up a new residence in New Orleans.

The free agent and longtime Vikings running back is "closing in" on a deal with the Saints that would pay him at least $3 million in 2017, NFL Media reported Monday.

While an official contract has yet to be signed, the report indicates that negotiations are "moving in that direction." Should an agreement be reached, it's interesting to note that the Saints are scheduled to visit the Vikings in the league's opening "Monday Night Football" matchup in Week 1.

Peterson, who turned 32 last month, has led the NFL in rushing three times but his production has recently declined due to his age and a number of knee injuries. He was limited to just 72 rushing yards in three games in his final year with the Vikings last season before being released by Minnesota on March 9.

Still, coach Sean Payton and the Saints remain interested in adding Peterson to the roster to complement Mark Ingram in the backfield. Peterson had also drawn interest from the Seahawks and Patriots earlier this offseason, though New Orleans appears ready to make the move official.  smoking_a_joint-408.gif

One million salary and 2 million signing I think the news said this morning. Sounds like he'll play the preseason this year! Good reddens to the part timer.

Yeah, you never knew if he was going to get 1 yard or go 95 for a TD just about every time he touched the ball . He didn't really earn the big money he got the last couple seasons IMO but that was mostly because he wasn't healthy. Too bad he couldn't catch a pass  or pick up the blitz very good either. Fumbles were a problem at times too. We play the Saints early in the season on Monday night so watch AP have 200 yards & 3 TD's against us.

Looks like we also get a 6th round pick for him this year.  He was great for us and then he got in that legal mess with something he should have never done.  Then he got hurt which I don't hold against him.  he always played hard.  Look forward to our defense in stopping his up the middle rushes.  good luck.

He probably could have resigned with the Vikings early in the off-season for more money, but he and his agent thought he could get more. Now he had to settle for a backup role in New Orleans. He was a great Viking! I wish him luck with the Saints (except for week one)!

Good info RH.  I checked and we do get a 6th round pick.  The pick is in next years draft, 2018.
