BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA

North Long Lake and Gull Lake are producing walleyes in 16 to 28 feet on a variety of live bait presentations. Minnows are turning northern pike in 18 to 22 feet on Gull, North Long, and Lake Edwards. Bass fishing has improved on the deep weeds of most lakes, sunfish remain shallow, and crappies are suspended in 12 to 28 feet at North Long and Cullen Lake.

LAKE MILLE LACS

East — Walleyes continue to consistently hit crankbaits or nightcrawlers on the mud flats and deep, main basin areas. Smallie reports have improved on the deep rocks, there's been some big pike taken on the weedlines and flats, while trolling continues to produce muskies on the north end.

West — Plastics and crankbaits are producing better numbers of smallies on the 14- to 18-foot rocks. Leadcore and crankbaits worked over the deep basin areas or live-bait rigs and crawlers on most mud flats will turn walleyes. Work the weedlines in Wigwam Bay and Garrison Bay with crankbaits for northern pike and the sand or deep rock for muskies.

EMILY AREA

Trolling crankbaits after dark over deep water is producing walleyes on Roosevelt Lake. Eagle Lake started giving up crappies in 12 to 15 feet and Upper Dean Lake is producing northern pike on spoons in 10 to 12 feet. Look to West Fox Lake in the 5- to 10-foot cabbage for largemouth bass.

HACKENSACK AREA

Walleye reports have improved on Ten Mile Lake in 18 to 24 feet of water or Baby Lake in 18 to 22 feet of water with crawlers. Largemouth bass fishing remains strong on the weedlines of most lakes and smallmouth are being caught on the rock flats in 4 to 7 feet of water at Portage Lake, Stoney Lake, and Ten Mile. Crappies are hitting on the 10-foot cabbage beds at Little Webb Lake, Webb Lake, and Portage. Bucktails or jerkbaits are triggering muskies on the cabbage beds of Little Boy Lake and Baby.

LONGVILLE AREA

The 12- to 16-foot weedlines on Big Boy Lake, Woman Lake, and Wabedo Lake are kicking out numbers of crappies. Walleyes also can be had on the weedlines of Big Boy with Jiggin' Raps or with a jig and minnow on Woman in 16 to 20 feet of water. Throw topwater baits on the bulrush edges of Wabedo and Lake Inguadona for muskies.

STAPLES/LITTLE FALLS AREA

Smallmouth bass continue to be caught above the Little Falls dam and current breaks below it on the Mississippi River. You'll find catfish and a few walleyes below the Blanchard Dam on the river as well. Look for sunfish in 10 to 15 feet at Beauty Lake and Green Prairie Lake.

LEECH LAKE

A spinner and crawler or jig and minnow is producing a few walleyes on West Goose Flats, Hardwoods, and Snake Pit area in 10 to 14 feet. Trolling crankbaits at night in 9 to 12 feet has turned walleyes near Pine Point and GrandVu Flats. Boy Bay or Portage Bay are safe bets for largemouth bass and muskie reports have been solid with rubber baits on the rocks and bulrush edges.

CASS LAKE AREA

Walleye action has been best early and late each day with a jig and minnow or crawler rigs on the 15- to 35-foot humps, breaks, and bars on Cass Lake. Lake Andrusia also is giving up walleyes in 15 feet, and muskies are being taken with bucktails on the cabbage beds throughout Cass. Perch action is going strong in 6 to 8 feet around Cedar Island on Cass or Center Bar on Pike Bay Lake.

LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH

Perch action is strong in 7 to 9 feet on Little Stoney Point and Rich's Townsite area — look deeper during midday hours. Walleyes are hitting best during the evening hours on the east and west sides of the lake in less than 12 feet or during the day off the bars in 20 to 25 feet — spinners and crawlers are working best. Troll the weedbed edges with spoons on the west and north ends of the lake for northern pike.
