this afternoon, my son andrew and I went to the lake to try for some walleyes. the bite has slowed as of late, but much to our pleasure, that wasnt the case tonight.

we started off marking fish right away, but it must have taken 15 minutes to get the first fish up.
it was a dandy.
a nice 20 incher that andrew and I tag teamed.

so we each got a picture with it.

we missed a bunch of hook sets, had a few get off part way up, caught a few (10) for the bucket between twelve and 16 inches, with most being over fourteen inches.

a few more over the slot went back.

the bite was from 5:00 p.m. until 7:45. most of the time we were marking fish. we had one northern that did the hudini on me and dissapeared out of my grasp and into the depths ;D
bout four pounds I guess. no perch thank god, only walleyes.
another week on the old grindstone and I will be back out there again. that is a lot of fun with a youngster. he kept saying "this is so cool pop"
ya gotta love it! :)

Nice report guys, sure looked like a fun trip. There is nothing better than spending time with your kids and to combine that with fishing, that is just great.  :)

Well done Jiggle!  You can see in the first pic just how proud he is!  That is another "priceless" moment you'll remember in years to come when you're in the rockin chair reminescing of days gone by!  ;D

Nice going Stick. ;)

Makes me wish I could turn the clock back to when my boys were youngsters. Spend all the outdoor adventure time you can with your kids. Before you know it they'll be finding other distractions like dating, cars, and all the rest of things that become priorities in life.

jigglestick, You are indeed a very lucky man to have a son like Andrew. I love my 2 daughters to death but I did always wish I had a son so I could enjoy great experiences like you guy's just had. When are you guy's coming up to LOW to go fishing with me again? Sure enjoyed it when you did even though we didn't have the greatest results. Don't you dare trying to come up here unless you bring Andrew along! :) ;D ;)DIRTBALL2 ;)

thanks guys.
my hopes are that by instilling this pass-time in them that when they come to pick up their pa to go do stuff, it will be stuff like this.
It's also kinda nice that they are old enough now to hook their own minnows and only sometimes need help with their fish.
I get just a little more ME time ;D

really, they have been around fishing and hunting from early ages. it's just what we do. even if we wanted to we couldnt afford a sitter just so we could go fishing. they allways came along.
as long as I have any say in it, they allways will, or at least if they want to, they are welcome to.

Time goes by real fast and all of the sudden they are all growd up.  My boys are 16 and 14 and love to fish.  I am taking them to Hunters on Mille Lacs next tuesday.  We are staying until thursday.  We are all pumped.  I have been painting glow jigs by the pound and setting up all our gear.  It will be a blast and the first time I will have them out on the ice for longer than a 3 hr stretch.
We are hoping for Perch, a few eyes and lotsa pout. Got some of those lighted jigs Im testing out too. (what a debockle, glad its straightened out, mine are legit) Ill let you all know how they work.

Thanks for the cool pics jigglestick, your boy sure looks like he is enjoying some time with his pop.

Kinda reminds me of a couple bumper stickers I got a few days ago in the Mail. They say

Kids who hunt, trap and fish don't mug little old ladies.

Lotta truth to that.
