The current law ( written back in the days of long bows) calls for a min. weight of 40lbs. the only reason i can see for dropping the poundage is to encourage youngsters to start bow hunting.
my thoughts are 30lbs is getting on the light side but then i'm not into figuring out down range arrow energies. the big ? here is will a 30 lb bow put an arrow through both lungs of a deer at say 20 yrds.

I saw ted's wife shoot a 800 pound zebra in the elbow with a 40 pound bow.
his comments were something like it didn't matter what poundage it was, it still wouldnt have gone through the elbow ;D
