I was wondering how the frost is doing in other areas.

Myself am able to ice fish yet but have seem many places where pocket gophers and badgers are digging already. They don't dig in frozen ground so there are some places around my area that have no frost but other spots do.

This is the first yr that I can actually ice fish and trap pocket gophers in the same day. One gopher actually threw his pile of dirt on a remaining snow bank.

I don't plan to trap many gophers just keep them away from mothers flower garden and help a few nieghbors by keeping them outta the hay fields.

Anyone else gonna trap gophers? Reports on frost?

griz, in the exposed areas, as usual the frost is down, but in this here part of the state anyway, according to the MNDOT website, graphs, the core studies showed the frost to only have gone down to about 35 inches give or take. that compared to the usual 70 + inches we usualy have.
the loggers were reporting no frost in area that remained sonwcoverd.
i expect the fros tthat is there will go very fast.
i will be luck to be ice fishing with any sort of internal combustion propelled vehicle after a week to two at the most.

Jeez I was just out to the lake yesterday. I'm a good bit south of you and I'm going out on the ice, fishing here shortly. I havn't heard any frogs but seen lots of migrating birds(They must be drunk as they seem to run into the windows. Pickup about a dozen a day.)Anyway I need waders to get to the Ice but once on it is good ice not honeycombed much. Only bout 6-8" of it left, prolly last day ice fishing round here. :(

Its been in the 70's or above for over a week i've given some thought to planting the garden allready, but that'll just bring in a foot of snow. ::)
