Anyone know where a guy could get his auger straightened out? I had to use it as an anchor to winch the 4 wheeler out today. I drilled a hole, dropped it in the the handles and tried to winch out the wheeler and bent it. Worst part was that it didn't work, so I STILL had to drive the truck out onto the ice as close as I dared too and pull the wheeler out.  Good news was the wheeler was only stuck in 2 ft of water and slush, but now I got a bent auger.

Sometimes, there's days a guy should have just stayed home...right Fish?

 That SUCKS!

Should have just drilled two holes close to each other and strung the winch cable down and back up and hooked to it's self

How, da he11 you get in that much water and slush?

There was a place that a truck went thru yesterday that was on a pressure ridge marked as a spot to cross the ridge.  Problem was, it was drifted over where the truck went thru and I got into the slush and got stuck, thankfully I got stuck before I hit the part where the truck had gone thru. I couldn't get the cable down and back up again, as where there is good ice its nearly 2 ft thick.

I could be wrong, but I would think any welding shop would be able to heat it up a little and get it tweaked back into shape (or close to it).  But from my experience of heating/bending/tweaking, it will never be as good as new.  Plus you'd have to repaint the auger.  It would almost be worth it to keep an eye out in classifieds and e-bay for auger bits.  If you tell me what size/brand/model of the auger is, I could keep my eye out for you.  I get around-the net that is  ;D .  From what I know most welding shops charge at least $50.00 per hour shop labor on up.  So buying a new/newer auger bit would be the wiser way to go.  IMHO. ~Woody

Do I need to keep you out of trouble...keep a eye on you all the time? LOL

You better come over fishing so I can keep a eye on you... ;D

Thanks woody, I may try to straighten it myself, Its not as bad as I thought.

Buff, I may try to get over that way next weekend. I did find out that I would not have gone thru to the bottom. Its water on top of the ice that 3' deep. I just got hung up in all the slush. My legs and feet sure were cold tstanding in it up to my waist tho!
It was caused by 30 vehicles out there the day before during an Ice race of compact cars.

Bent auger?????? I would consult jigglestick, surely he can remedy your situation. My suggestion would be to drive into the slush from the other side then you can winch it out the other way and maybe thatll straighten it out ???
