Boy things were really quiet around us.  Hardly a shot on Saturday and non today.  Did everyone just call it a season and not hunt the last two days.  Odd for sure.  I shot a fairly nice 185 pound 9 point on Saturday morning.  This morning I went for a walk in the woods and just played peek-a-boo with a number of deer.  One doe decided to stand her ground and let we walk up to her a number of times.  I was great fun.  Legs are killing me now but it was worth it.  For half hour I dogged her and she never was more than 40 yards away. I guess she figured out I was harmless.

Saturday morning buck

Nothing like a pile of snow to light up the woods

Several times she let me get to within 20 yards.  Probably couldn't miss from this range.

Here's the short behind shooting this buck.  With only 4 of us hunting, I went with my son to "Buck Ridge" and planned to hunt in the "Loggy Bayou" stand while my son went about a quarter mile down the ridge to the "Cut". On the way I passed by a stand my brother in law and uncle built about 35 years ago. This used to be my go to stand but in recent years others have used it.  The deer sign around the area convinced me to climb up into my old faithful stand. It had been 4-5 years since I hunted out of this stand but it only took a few minutes to remember what was so good about it.  Several small bucks and some does passed by before I saw this buck.  He was passing by at about 60 heading towards the swamp.  Being my grandson was in a stand on the other side of the swamp and my son was 400 yards down the ridge, I let him walk hoping one of them would get a crack at him. When he reached the edge of the woods, the turned towards my son which would take him between my son and grandson across the swamp.  About 20 minutes later he came back to me. (I believe the same buck but could have been a different one).  I waited until he passed me and was heading away from the other hunters before I shot him.

We didn't see anything Friday night or Saturday morning except for tracks and a few beddings.  Oh ya, and one chipmunk. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
I think we heard about 5 shots and one of them was about 8:30 PM.  haha.
My nephews went up Saturday night and got two Sunday morning though.

What is it about a field mouse moving 6 feet behind your stand that sounds exactly like a deer sneaking by at 30 yards?

Hard to kill does when the studs keep showing up.
