  I may have a chance to go elk hunting this October for the first time. I would be going with people who have been doing this for many years at the same locatoin in Colorado.It would be a great learning experiance, but I don't want to rely on them to help or to teach me everything.

 Do you know of any good books I could read or some other good way to get a heads up so I could be more prepared? I know you can't learn from a book what you can learn from experience but the more I learn the better

You want to get prepared?  excersize! as often as you can cuz you will want to be in great shape before climbung up and down them mountains.  another tip is buy some elk hunting videos...primos has a few out that are really helpful.
