What's The Deal With The Funky A?

Wondering what the deal is with some members posting the funky A's?  For no reason known to the English language, I see them here and there.  Some members enjoy posting them often inside of a post.

pretty simple realy, I just got it out of a book at the library.

I'm sure it has something to do with a hangup in the new format.

They are actually remnants of smileys and other symbols that came up after the last upgrade on the site. The complete upgraded site will be unveiled later this month and this will all be taken care of then. Thank you for your patience as the site is being updated.
