The fishing slowed down quite a bit this weekend.  I think it was mainly because of the northeast wind.  The action should pick up once the weather pattern settles down early next week.  The Monstor Pike are begining to show up.  I still have an opening for next weekend.

We spent the weekend at hillmans campground in Waskish, on the tamarac river, that leads into Upper Red Lake.
friday night, we arrived before dark and listened to everybody tell us how great the fishing had been.
the water warmed up 5 degrees that day and the wind was calm.
everybody on the lake caught all the walleyes they wanted.
the crappies were very cooperative as well.

saturday was a different story.
we spent our time outside fishing the river in temps, 40 degrees cooler than the day before.
the winds picked up late friday night and they havent stopped.
that didn't stop us from fishing the river, but it sure was chilly.

there were plenty of walleyes in the river, but there were so few under the slot that we couldn't even have a fish fry.
out of 40-50 fish we caught, we kept 5.
we did manage to catch 2 crappies, one of which was one of our parties first red lake slab!
you should have seen his eyes!
"HOLY $#!T" was all he could say.
one crappie was a male and the other was a female just loaded with eggs.
last night the temps dropped into the thirties.

I would say, in the next couple weeks,
watch the thermometer and the forecast for Waskish, MN.
if the wind settles down and the temps near 80 degrees, it could be hot and heavy for both walleyes and crappies!
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

Will be coming up there Friday for the weekend.  My son and I and a family friend (Chuck) and his son Adam.  Hope to get in a little fishing and some mowing.  Hope to have some success and give some fish to the nieghbors up there who can't get out fishing but love to eat fish.  Will give a report when we get back Monday some time.
