Once me and my Dad went ice fishing on White Bear Lake.  We caught 18 perch that day.  Dad was marking them on the wall for every fish.  It was really fun.  Some of them were really fat.  I think they were Momma fishies.  We threw them all back.

That must have been a lot of fun you had with your dad!  You must be quite the fishergirl to catch that many fish.  That's a special time that you get to spend with your dad, he's a good man.  ;D

My most memorable experience ice fishing was a few years ago when my entire nuclear family went ice fishing on Lake Milacs.  My family consisted of my parents, two younger brothers and my younger sister.  We spent most of our time listening to 'CCO radio, playing "President" or "Apple" (whatever you so choose to call it), cooking and eatin, and oh yeah, fishing.  haha.  This was my first time ice fishing ever.  When it was late, everyone went to sleep except for me so I had fish duty, naturally.  Over the night, I had to have caught about 8 eelpout....the grossest and slimiest fish around.  I got to bring them up and take them off the hooks while everyone ground their teeth and snored.  *sigh*

I think that weekend was memorable for me because I had never caught that many eelpout by myself before, I hadn't been forced to be with my family in that setting before, and because I witnessed the signatures in the snow of both my brothers and father (of course they could not do the whole thing at once).  I haven't gone ice fishing with my whole family since then, but it definitely helped me at my expertise when out fishing with my drunk friends!

Perch Extravaganza
Well anyone that was there this year new it was a windy and snowy trip. Well it started off there waas a mouse in my fish house at 3:00 am and he never really got in but kept trying we were baiting him with snacks peanuts and other things till my buddy finally came up @ 6am with some traps The fishing was slow for us but the drinks were going down well we went to the drawing and won nothing but we baitted the traps with a snickers bar b4 we left the house when we got back I have too say the snickers satisfied the mouse's hunger because we had him dead. Towrads the night the wind was blowing so hard that the Wharf couldn't keep there roads open so we had to wait for there duece and half plow truck to plow us out in the morning all in all the trip was good except the fishing.

Mine is just a general comment about ice fishing experiences back when I was "young" and my Dad used to take any of us kids ice fishing down on the Mississippi in Brownsville, MN.  This was always a great treat for us, as it meant getting out of doing work at home (at least not until we had to get home for the 5:00 milking)!  Sometimes when we didn't feel like fishing or weren't getting any bites, Dad would let us go toward to the shoreline (away from the fishermen/women of course), and do some ice skating.  Then if we were really lucky, we would stop off at the rootbeer stand in Brownsville before heading home to get one of their famous ice cream cones.
This is an absolutely wonderful memory for me and for all of my brothers & sisters!  My Dad just passed away in January, and this is definitely a memory I hold dear to my heart -- there were 13 of us kids and for him to take the time out of his busy day of farming to "entertain" us is beyond words.

ok, I can't resist --

this from the past, still makes me chuckle.
enjoy!

well, what can i say it was a great weekend once again. caught a schmidt load of crappies, got drunk, and met some old and new friends. camp jigglestick was not producing the way we hoped on friday, so we decided to move camp on saturday. all but the six point lodge that is. the floor of the lodge decided she wasn't going any where. a new floor is in on order. after a long and arduous journey, through the blinding white back drop of upper red lake, we arrived at camp goose slayer, a broken, run down, make shift place, with a hell of a view(ch 597 ). we set up camp and spread out. we wasted no time within minutes every able bodied fisherman had beer in hand. fish were caught almost imediately. slowly through the after noon. then after dark they were unstopable. about time.10 guys, ten limits by 8 o'clock.what a crew of guys this weekend. two newbies, jeff, and bruce, or as we shall now and forever call him"burny". the nick name that was well earned.lets just say bruce likes his beer, all of them. after checking in on every body counting fish, helping those who were less fortunate etc.then for some instictive reason i figured i'd better go check on burny again. on my way over to his fish house (which was actually my small portable), i heard yelling and hollering, and cursing. then in a flash of light here comes burny running out of the portable, on fire! he ripped off his shirt and stomped out the flames.i raced over to him and proceeded to chew his @$$. in all my life i have never seen some one on fire before, and the first time i do i figure i'm gonna finally get to see some body do the stop drop and roll they have pounded into our heads since kindergarten! not burny, he simply ripped off his shirt and snuffed out the flames.aarrrgg!as appologetic as a person could sound, and obviously shaken, he just said "i'm sorry, i've never been on fire before". i tried to keep from laughing when i told him don't let it happen again! all is fine, except for the recuring night mare burny has every time he falls asleep of being shrink wrapped by my portable fish house. he will never live this down. he asked if this could be our little secret. sure burny, sure it can
keep a firm grip on you fire extinguisher! jigglestick!
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

Wow, I have moe ice fishing stories than open water stories, but I think the best one for me is hat I used to enjoy fishing SO much when I was younger that I would fake having bites when I knew my dad was getting anxious to leave. The more bites I would fake the longer we would stay!  ::dancinred::

Last season, a couple buddies and I went up to East Battle Lake.  We went to the local bar and were schmoozing with the owner.  He let us use his fish house for the night, which was warmer and more comfortable than the portable that we brought up.  During the night, we ended up catching the biggest fish (an 18 inch walleye) of our ice fishing days.  We hadn't had much luck until that time.
