Camping near the metro area

I have Thursday and Friday off this week so I thought I might try to take by two boys camping.  One is 5 and the other will be 2 in a couple of months.  Does anyone have a recommendation that is fairly close to here.  I don't want to drive several hours and find out they can't stand it.  I'm sure they will be fine, but I don't want to take any chances.

Taylors Falls area. I would suggest Interstate Park just across the river in WI.

And as far as Baker Park? We camped there twice every summer growing up! Althugh we camped it didn't really feel like it as it is so close to the city. We went there because of the beach, park and bike trails! Always had a blast!! Kids would love it.

Rice Creek in Lino Lakes is a good campground.  It has some pretty private sites and is close to Centerville lake.  It has a beach and boat launch within 1/2 mile to 1 mile.  Plenty of room to park with a boat.  Full hookups.  Go there all the time.  You do need an Anoka parks sticker or will have to buy a pass for however many days you are going to be staying.

I live right by Rice creek. I never realized that they had camping back there!? My daughter is 2 1/2 and is always talking about camping yet she has never been Maybe I should bring her there for a night....

You should, it is a very nice kept up campground with plenty of privacy and decent size sites.  Plus it's close.  Gotta love that.
