Fishing has been slow, even for bass, in the Ely area. This may be attributed to a 10 degree drop in the surface temp about 6-7 days ago.

Surface temps were in the low 80's, then dropped to the low 70's after winds picked up.The thermocline actually came up a few feet at the same time, an occurence that I have never seen in my life.

A party on Shagawa has been doing very well for northerns the last day or two, with catches up to 37 inches being taken in 8 FOW. Looks as though fishing may improve this week for northerns and bass. Walleyes are being observed with a camera (Burntside) in 12-15 FOW in large schools, but aren't hungry, DAMN!

For up to the minute fishing reports, call me at 218-365-4744 before 10 am daily. I have 45 years fishing experience in the Ely area, and have owned and operated the Great Outdoors Bait & Tackle for 23 years (over five times longer than any other current shop owner within a 40+ mile radius) If I don't have an answer for you,  will call someone that does, and get back to you. Thank you!
