Well, It's that time of year when I haven't made a purchase in a wile... I am looking to buy a new Canada goose call. I know that there are some goose hunters out there that have strong opinions on what kind of call to get. I am going to get a short reed call. I have the primos Honkey Tonk and am looking to make an upgrade. What do you blow or what do you suggest. Price is an option, but I would rather spend a bit more now and get a good call than end up with something that I don't want. I don't want to spend more than $100 dollars if I don't have to (if you think I should you can tell me that, It will not kill me). So, what do you think???

I know Fred Zink makes some great calls, but they are realy expensive. Any other ideas/thoughts?

I love STELZ's CALLS!!! THEY ROCK, I have the Preacher, Prophet, disciple, commemorative MWF call and two matching African Bloodwood duck and goose calls!

Jeff with Most Wanted Game Calls makes some nice calls as well. I hunt in Rochester with him a few times a year, check out the repeat offender for your price range!

Here are my other calls:
Showtime
Moneymaker
Paralyzer
Grand
Market hunter

I can't stop playing with this thing. Fred Zink makes an awesome call and it comes with an instructional video to help you along. I got mine from Sportsmans warehouse in St. Cloud and they have a great selection. The only problem with buying a higher end goose call is... now I want a higher end duck call! So what do you all think for a duck call? I'll be asking around getting opinions and would like yours as well. I don't want to spend as much on the duck call as I did the goose call (my wife will kill me!) Can I get a good duck call for under 50 dollars? Any suggestions would be great!

May sound great but make sure it kills!  ;D

There are world champion duck callers and there are world champion duck killers. I am a duck killer-Phil Robertson

Thats what I live by.

You'll be happy with it, you get good service with them as well.

Here are my two most recent additions to the Lanyard from Stelz, its a matched set of duck and goose, made out of African bloodwood with triple elk antler bands!

The hen is real raspy and the goose is super smooth and mellow!

Another good call thats very affordable and sounds great are the Buck Gardner Sean Stahl SS1 and SS2, the ss1 is a little more advanced but they both sound really nice.

I use a Sean Mann Eastern Shoreman flute, backed up by a Buck Gardner Canadian Hammer II.  I have had the Eastern Shoreman for about 20 years, never had to have it retuned, works great.  I just bought the Canadian Hammer II which is a short reed call and am still learning how to make it work.  The Canadian Hammer II uses less air than the Shoreman, however, the Shoreman is like a foghorn when it sounds off and is raspy.
The Canadian Hammer II is higher pitched, and is somewhat difficult to make it "break" properly which I attribute to me, as I am used to the flute call.

You pay your money and make your choice.  I personally like the flutes better, however, apparently there is some merit in the short reed calls.  I went to a local Bass Pro Shop two weeks ago and asked about the difference between acrylic and polycarbonate calls.  I found that acrylic calls are machined and the polycarbonate calls are "blow formed."  Both are plastic, and the additional expense for the acrylic calls is basically for the machining.  This information came from a field representative from Buck Gardner calls, who sells both the acrylic and polycarbonate calls.  The poly calls will be about $100.00 cheaper than the acrylic, and I could not tell the difference in the tone.
