Today's trip was with Chris and Amy Simler of Naperville IL.
Up until today Chris's largest bass had been 13 inches and that record fell just before sunrise when Chris nailed a 20 incher. Chris also lost another giant smallie after an awesome battle bringing the smallie back out from under the opposite side of the boat and a brief encounter with the anchor rope. With one final leap it was gone but not forgotten. As Chris was longing for sympathy, Amy being the great wife that she is was right there to console him with some sharp digs followed some laughter and more trash talkin.

After seeing Amy having fun razing Chris I figured it was time to jump in and score some points by supporting my client. So, naturally being the kind of guy I am I also started to blow some smoke at Chris in his time of sorrow. This was exactly what Chris needed since he to was soon laughing about it.

We managed 28 smallmouth today with 20 being under just under 14 inches. The smallies today were much less tentative about taking the bait and that's a good sign. You may want to try some garlic spray on your crawlers since it works well when the fish get a little finicky.
