I spent the afternoon with my son fishing the Mississippi river yesterday.
the weather was very nice. the winds were light and variable, the sun high and strong and the water was high and swift.
we put in west of Deer River and moved downstream. we took it pretty easy going down and back as the current and high water had alot of debris moving.
we focused on the deep water holes, figuring the walleyes would take advantage of the deeper darker water in the midday sun.
the first hookup took only five minutes. my son tied into this nice twenty incher.

a few more passes through that hole resulted in a couple more missed fish before we managed to spook them.
we moved down stream to another hole and i got lucky with this nice nineteen inch fish.

we didn't manage to pull anymore fish out of there though we sure tried and this spot had tons of potential.
we moved back to the same area, having giving it a couple hours to settle back down and managed another fish about sixteen inches and a few little scrapper northerns like this.

looking upstream at the same view ol zebulon pike had a hundred and some odd years ago by canoe can make you understand why they came looking for the source of the mighty mississippi in the first place.
we had a very good time and we will be back. maybe when the waters recede a little.
take a kid hunting and fishing!!
