Ice conditions Update:

The ice conditions as of 12/16/07 are still at 6 to 7 inches and as much as 11 inches in spots without any snow cover. The ice this year is the most inconsistent that I have ever seen in 18 years of doing this. I will be as cautious as I have always been. Do not ask me why other resorts are pulling houses and letting people drive, because I do not know and will keep my opinions to myself on that one. Those of you who rely on my experience, already know what I think about that.

That is not going to happen over here for at least another week or two. With the variation of ice thickness it will be a pretty hairy deal until we get 12 inches consistently. I did get a chance to fish on Saturday from 3pm until 5pm, with only 1 small walleye for my efforts. It will be interesting, to say the least this season. There were a few walleyes and some decent perch caught out front in 17 to 20 ft of water. We had about 10 people go out of here on Saturday and 6 or so on Sunday. All and all this weekend the bite was pretty slow. Let us hope that is not a sign of things to come for this winter.

I have a couple of cracks that had opened up about an inch or so on Friday and Saturday morning, creating a lot of slush under the snow on either side of it. They will heal over this week and the slush should be gone by the weekend. We went Friday morning to check on the progress of the New Fish Houses. They will be here next week and I was really impressed with how they are turning out. I may, possibly have them out this weekend.

We will see what the week brings. I will be out searching out the fish most of the week. I will find them if they are there to be found, I can guarantee you that. With that said have a great week and remember to use your heads out there on the tundra, this season especially.

Be safe
