I haven't been ice fishing in several years and today I cracked. I went and bought new blades for the auger and a couple new rod and reel combos. With that said I live near Rochester and was wondering if anyone knows of anything real close around Rochester to try out the new rods. I think i'm heading up to Red Wing or down to Wabasha this week sometime.

Definitely head over to Mazaska or even Shields. Mazaska is one of my favorite lakes in the state.

I may be heading down there on Monday. My cousin was out yesterday and they brought home 3 nice limits of bigger Crappies.

Its been a few years since I have been down there, but if i remember correctly the lake is like a big bowl, the middle of the lake is about 40 feet. This time of year i would probably fish the north end and look for 30 fow.

From Faribault hwy 35 take cty road 21 west to the lake, Mazaska will be on your right hand side, there use to be a resort and bait shop on the South end along with an access. Access the lake and venture out to the North end and look for other groups.

Shields is just West of there on your left.
