Ice conditions Update: 12/31/07

12/31/07
I Have finally gotten a road established this weekend. Let me tell you this, it is the thinnest ice I have ever put a truck on. Nine inches on the first of January, is the worst I have ever seen on this lake. Now put a three quarter ton truck with a 800 lb V plow on that and you will have some of the most anxious moments of your life. I can tell you this, if anyone is out driving on that, you truly need to have your head examined. You want to talk about a weight loss program, this is it. I bet I lost 10 lbs just in water weight from all of the sweating.

We do have the roads established and I will let Mother Nature do the rest. We are going to get some cold weather this week, but it is not going to last. They are talking mid thirties by the end of the week. I will not be allowing any vehicles to drive again this weekend, but I will have all of my smaller houses along with the foam houses out for this weekend. If you have a house rented for this weekend and you have a sled or a 4 wheeler bring it with you. Otherwise, I will be transporting out anyone that has a house rented this weekend.

If the ice does not get thicker, we will be doing it this way until we have 13 inches or more of ice. It is what it is and I will do what I have to for your safety, even if it means 4 wheelers and sleds for the foreseeable future. It is about your safety and not the money. I have had plenty of people ask me why are the other resorts pulling big houses and letting people drive and you are not. Well, I have never in 18 years had a car, truck, sled or 4 wheeler, go down on my watch and I plan on keeping it that way. With the ice conditions the way they are, you are rolling the dice if you drive out on the lake now.

I just got off the phone with my fish house builder and he has guaranteed me that I will have all 4 of my foam houses by Friday morning, so make your reservations now for this weekend in a new foam house. They will accommodate 4 people, but they are built for 3 or 6 people when we join them together. The bite was slow this weekend, with a few walleyes caught, but then again there were not too many people up this weekend. Hopefully we will see more of you this weekend and pray for 2 or 3 more inches of ice before the weekend.

Be very safe out there

Have a Happy New Year

We will see ya

When we see ya

Thanks for the update Rockman! It's good to see a resort owner on Mille Lacs that cares!
