I'll be on East Rush or Peltier for the afternoon/eve bite. Maybe some new videos are in order?

I'll be out Saturday morning. I haven't decided where yet, but most likely the Chisago area. I could meet you at Frankie's in the AM. Otherwise you've got my cell.

Peltier sounds tempting. I've been hearing/reading rumors of an area on the east side where guys have been doing fairly well. I've only fished the lake a couple times and that was from the west side access. Is there a daytime bite over there or is it mainly an evening crappie bite? I have caught some nice sunfish on Peltier, but they were few and far between.

I'm still not sure where I am going yet, it will definitely be Peltier or Rush. I'll know tomorrow late morning after I get a report from some friends that will be out in the morning.

As far as fishing Peltier, the East side has been great for Panfish, sunnies bite all day long and Crappies turn on an hour before dark. You can access the lake by foot off of Mill Road or something like that. Parking is not a problem off the road and you only have to walk out a couple hundred yards or so.

Take 35 E North from the cities to County rd 14 (Centerville exit) go West to the Marathon station (buy your bait at Marathon) take a right and follow that road to Mill Road, once you come around the curve, you will start seein trucks on the left side, park and walk out to the groups of people, I would recommend fishing away from everyone in 13-16 fow, it can be a busy lake on the weekends. Small glow jigs tipped with a waxie are best, very small minnows work too, but not necessary.

I'll post here when i know more and if I'll be fishing Peltier or Rush.

How many years has it been since Peltier was putting out those big crappies? Do they exist anymore on that lake?? For almost a year and a half I drove by that lake daily and talk about fishing pressure!! That lakes gets hammered. I can't imagine it is worth going there anymore......

If your looking for slab Crappies, then Peltier is not the lake anymore, the fish are still plenty nice though. We still catch some really nice Crappies but only at certain times of the year. Some nice Walleye too on occassion.

Nowadays, they run 6 oz up to about 3/4 pound, with most keepers around 10 oz. Nothing wrong with a limit of 10 oz Crappies and Sunnies.

Not too many Metro Lakes where you can consistently catch Slab Crappies and Bull Gills anymore, not saying Peltier or other area lakes don't have them, but they are hard to stay on. Same with Minnetonka, Rush, Chisago, N Center and a few others, all have big fish, but most run about half pound to 10 oz that people keep. The Croix has bigger Crappies and Gills, but with all the snow this year and lack of ice, I'm not going anywhere near there for a while.

Gas is too expensive to head North right now for me, so I'll stick to a nice mess of fresh 10 oz crappies and a couple beers to chase em down with.  :toast:

If you want to catch the slab crappies and piggy sunfish you'll have to head north(Aitkin, Crosby area) or like Pat mentioned the river. I'm content with saving a pile of money and weeding through the metro area panfish.

So is it too late for the bite at Peltier? I've heard it's an early ice bite. I'm thinking off heading out there tomorrow.

I drove by Mud Lake (AKA: Battle Creek)today and there were quite a few houses out there. Have you been out there lately Pat?

There were some mighty fine norts in that lake years ago.
I spent a couple hours out on Peltier this morning and got into a few crappie and sunfish, but was really dissapointed by the size. I talked to a couple people out there that said they were catching some nice crappie a couple weeks ago, but they hadn't had much luck lately.
I packed up and headed over to Chisago.

You that seems to happen about every 3-5 years that lake gets a nice crop of pike and 1 open water/hardwater season the numbers go way down !!
