We have all our fish houses out on the lake. You can drive right to them from our resort with snowmobiles, and ATV's, or you can use a ramp about a mile from us and drive right to fish houses. The last several days the fishing has been a little slow for the walleye's, and northern's. The weather is changing, and maybe the bite will come back. Far as the perch and pan fish, it been real good. Some real good jumbo perch fishing. We are haveing some people coming in tomorrow. I will report on Wednesday mourning.

Man dies after exposure on Leech Lake ice
Duluth News Tribune
Published Monday, January 14, 2008

A 36-year-old Rogers, Minn. man died from exposure after spending some time on the ice of Leech Lake, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department reported this morning.

Bradley Erikson was found on the ice about 8:30 a.m. Sunday but was not responsive. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, Minn., where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said Erikson had been camping in the Sand Point area of Leech Lake. He had gone into Walker, Minn., Saturday night and left Walker to return to the campsite when his pickup truck broke through thin ice.

Erikson swam across the channel and then attempted to walk to his campsite. But he never made it, collapsing on the ice. He was located by deputies after a Minnesota conservation office discovered the partially submerged truck.

i just read that too.... too bad, sounds like he got himself out, but couldn't make it to anyone.  I am sure the cell phone was wet and didn't work, if he had one.
Anyone have an official word on ice thickness in walker bay?

Last I heard was 8-12 inches of ice in Walker Bay, that was right before the warm up a few days ago. Hopefully some of the top snow melted. I don't really think the recent warm up hurt the ice anywhere, it actually helped more than anything.

With the cold front that came in yesterday all over the state, we should be in pretty good shape a week from now.  :fishing:

That is about what most of the lakes around here have on them.  Also in the last couple weeks it seems like the slush has calmed down thankfully.  With the warmer weather and sun it has compacted the snow down quit a bit.  I have not been out much today but my computer still says -3 so it probally did not get above 0 all day!!!!!   ;D

went to walker bay on 1/12 cheked the ice out from the marina to one of the humps in the middle we drilled adout 15 holes on the way out and had 12.5 to almost 17 inches.don't know about the rest of the bay. I'm sure there are some thinner spots.my suggestion would be to check when going out.fishing was slow only caught 2 about 10 inches threw them back to grow up. should be plenty of ice by this weekend.still would check when driving out for the first time. :fudd:
