What a great season so far.
The trout are hungry.  Fishing in as deep as 80' the trout are being caught in the 40 to 35 foot range.  Many are working the white tube jig but a gold cleo, laker taker or buzz bomb will land you a fish.
The milder than normal weather has not made slush conditions any worse in some spots the slush has improved.
No big fish have weighed in yet for the tournament what is being caught is averaging 7 - 8 lbs but the season is still young.
The ice conditions on Crow are between 10 - 12" but in some spots there is 7 - 8" not recomended for truck travel even though some are venturing out.  Sleds are still the best choice especially with the recent snowfall.

The ice road open on Lake of the Woods out of Nestor Falls at Shrums has been plowed to all your favorite crappie spots.  If you wish to travel by truck that is the safest way to go.
The fishing for crappies is continuing to be awesome. Small jigs with half a minnow seem to produce the most aggressive bite.  At 40' they are anywhere from 1 to 6' off of bottom.
The weather shows no sign of a cold snap so the fishing should continue to be great.  Get out there and enjoy our mild January temperatures.
