Those must be catch and release plugs with no hooks to harm the fish!   :whistling:

OK, really they look good Tip!  You will have to take pictures of the monster that you catch with one of them hanging out of it's mouth!  Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Sweet job on carving out the plugs. And like it's already been said, you will really be proud when you land a fish on them. Very nice job!

Thanks for the good words guys, much of the credit has to go to bobby bass as he gave me and still is giving good advice. The real test has to come with open water and the bite.

To follow up on Trips nice work here is 15 top water lures primed and now ready to be sanded and painted. No hardware except for the front eyelet so there is something to hang and hold the lures by. I will be able to paint by computer these lures before I actually paint them. By using a graphics tablet I can import the image and paint the lures on the computer screen. I will post a picture of the computer painted lures and then the real painted lures. This will let me play with colors with out really painting them.

WOW Trip, those are awesome.  I doubt you'll ever go with a store bought lure again.  Those would make a pretty special gift to some youngster, look great on a mount, or just flat out work great for catchin fish.

Congrats!  I know you're proud.  As soon as I dwendel my Honey DO list down, Im gonna try my hand at this.   :bonk:

That may not look like a "Rappala" but its no joke.  A bass doesn't know the difference.  I only hope I can make one that looks that good.

GOOD JOB, Trip.

I love this post. TripnChip how long does it take you to make these? Very nice.

I didn't understand this comment by Bobby, "I will be able to paint by computer these lures before I actually paint them." Do you mean you take a photo of the blanks and then experiment with the colors on the computer. Great stuff you guys.

Fawk, will see if i can answer for Bobby. Yes his daughter has a program that he can put the lure into and play with colors before painting the lure itself.
I cann't wait to see some of the stuff he will turn out.

We have a graphics tablet that you can connect to your computer. The picture will come up on your screen and we can adjust size. Using a drawing/painting  software to paint or change any design. We will take the lure blanks after being primed and  take a picture of them. Then we can paint them using the tablet. This way we can play with color combos and see what they look like before we actually paint anything. Been side track with other projects but hope to start painting here soon.

Nice. You must have a lot of colors to choose from when you actually paint - or do you try to limit the colors (paint) that you have to buy. Or do you airbrush the stuff?

My daughter is an art major so as long as I have the primary colors on hand I just tell her what I want and she mixes for me. This batch will all be air brushed as we have a few ideas we want to try out. If they work you will see them, if not they will remain top secret and hidded in my area 51 tackle box.

While waiting for a parts catalog to arrive I hit the tackle box and took the hardware from these old lures. I will prime and repaint these but some of these are 15 years old and have earn the right to be retired.. they were hand painted.
