Been out on Lake Geneva for the last 5 days and the all around fishing has been improving each day with water temps reaching 69.5 degrees yesterday. My clients yesterday had a ball fishing the smallies with side order of largemouth thrown in. The smallmouth seem to be dominating the areas we've been choosing to fish with an avg size of 17 inches and some in the 19 & 20 inch range. In the last 5 days every smallie has been at least 15 min inches and this is not unusual in the spring. We managed to net 2 smallies in the same net at once and had to clear the net fast with another smallie on the 3rd anglers rod.
The water clarity is slowly improving daily and isn't as cloudy as last Spring. We started with small crank baits and jigs and wound up working crawlers. Most fish were caught in 6 to 15 ft of water. With the stable weather pattern ahead the fishing will get even better over the next 2 1/2 weeks. We fished from 4:45 am to 11:45 am yesterday.

Interesting observation:

There was less boat traffic on Saturday am then there was on Friday am. I figure that a lot of anglers had to go to some of the many graduation parties that come up in early June. Better them than me!

All the game fish in my boat are CPR only.

See ya on the pond, Lee Borgersen

Thanks for the report ELL-LEE.  Sounds like you are having a good time.

Maybe someday I'll wander down that way and you can take me out on the first lake I ever ice fished on - 40 long years ago :).

Took out the Picchietti brothers and their dad today. While the sons spent most of the day talkin trash to each other over who was the most accomplished angler and claiming individual victories. Old? pops sat quietly out fishing his 2 sons with the best catches. We had to hopscotch around more than usual today, but managed to score smallmouth in every hangout we visited. Bright skies and very light winds didn't seem to curtail the smallmouth's aggressiveness although they weren?t schooling up and roaming as much today.

We fished from 5:00 am till 12:00 pm and focused on the smallmouth all morning. As most everyone already knows the rock bass are going strong with some nice jumbo gills and pumpkins starting to cooperate.

See ya on the water,

Fished today from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm with the president of the Des Plaines Lunker Busters and his partner Harry. The smallies were still sleeping at sun up, but soon started to become active as the sun rose over the tree tops. We fished in 7 to 18 fow and managed some quality smallies. The largemouth were not as cooperative for us today, although we did manage a few. That's ok since smallmouth was our main goal.

The water was like glass early until a front blew in with some rain and a brisk south wind that switched to west and then south west at about 9:00 am.
After that the fishing slowed down and became spotty.

Had some motor trouble at days end and had to drift back to the dock. I called and cancelled Wednesdays clients since I'll be in the shop tomorrow with my fingers crossed. I think it's something minor, but I've been wrong before.

Good Fishin,

Lee Borgersen

Fished two trips today. 5:00 am to 12:00 pm was with John Schmeckle. We caught 20 nice smallmouth and 4 largemouth. The bass were in heavy today and we only fished two spots. Lots of smallies following the ones that were hooked. This is defiantly the peak time in June. Saw another boat with 3 guys doing quite well also, but every smallie they caught went into the box and will never spawn again. Well to each his own I guess. We will continue to release all our game fish since that's what helps Geneva to be the great fishery that it is.

Second trip was from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Fished with Russ Vogel for the first time in the afternoon, but it had slowed down substantially since the morning. Steve and I managed some quality fish but the boat traffic had impacted the shallow bite down.

Good Fishin
